Announcement Regarding the Suspension of Exports via the Kerem Shalom Crossing
We, the Palestinian Businessmen Association, issue this solemn condemnation statement in response to the recent closure of the Kerem Shalom border for exports from Gaza. We find it imperative to express our deep concern and disappointment regarding this decision, which has wrought severe economic consequences on the Gaza Strip.
We firmly believe that economic development and humanitarian concerns in Gaza should remain distinct from the complex political challenges facing the region. The people of Gaza have borne significant hardships over the years, and the closure of the Kerem Shalom crossing for export only serves to exacerbate their suffering.
For the past decade, the Palestinian Businessmen Association has worked relentlessly alongside esteemed international partners to bolster the economic situation in Gaza. These collaborative efforts have involved dedicated stakeholders both within Gaza and across the globe, with the shared goal of creating economic opportunities, empowering local businesses, and enhancing the living standards of Gazan residents.
We categorically reject the use of collective punishment as a means of addressing political disputes. The closure of the Kerem Shalom crossing for exporting indiscriminately impacts the entire populace of Gaza, who bear no responsibility for the political decisions at play. Such actions not only hinder economic growth but also jeopardize the prospects for peace, and contravene the principles of justice and humanity.
In light of these deeply concerning developments, we urgently call upon the international community, the European Union, the United Nations, and our neighboring and friendly countries to exert their influence and engage in diplomatic efforts to pressure the Israeli authorities to promptly reopen the border. It is our collective duty to champion fairness, justice, and the protection of human rights.
The Palestinian Businessmen Association remains resolute in our commitment to fostering economic growth, and facilitating trade, in the Gaza Strip. We firmly believe that a stable and flourishing economy can play a pivotal role in building a brighter and more peaceful future for all residents of Gaza.
We implore individuals, organizations, and governments to unite with us in our pursuit of justice and equity in Gaza. Together, we can work towards the swift reopening of the Kerem Shalom border crossing and pave the way for a better future for the Gazan people.
